Contrary to earlier reports, the Giants have only locked up quarterback Eli Manning through the 2009 season, not through 2012. Manning had hit some playing time incentives and triggered a contract clause that could have made him a free agent after the 2007 season. However, the Giants also had a "buy-back" option for 2008 and 2009 which they recently exercised, Newsday reported.
Our View
Our heads are now swimming with the details of Manning's rookie contract and all the incentives and clauses and options that have kicked in. Bottom line: he's signed through 2009 and will be at least a top-15 fantasy quarterback heading into 2007.
