It's all about statistics...you draft players from all around the league to form your own team. Each week you fill in your starters, the positions are slotted according to what the leage owner decides. The basic setting on ESPN is:

QB, RB, RB/WR, WR, WR, TE, K and a team defense (like Chicago, Seattle, etc.) Some custom leagues have individual defensive players....then you've got backup players on your bench. You fill in your backup players when your starters are on a bye week or are injured. Check out Bucs thread about his team to see a sample of one. The way the statistics are customized, but here's the standard usually:

Every 20 passing yards=1 pt.

Every Passing Td=6 pts

Every Int= -2 points

10 rushing yards is a point, a rushing TD is 6, etc etc. For defense, points are based on how many actual points your Defense holds their opponent to, along with whatever turnovers they force.

Every week, your team faces an opponent, and whoever racks up the most points from their fantasy players earns the win, and whoever has the best records gets into the playoffs, which are done before the actual NFL playoffs (cause they rest their players in week 17)

That's the basics, it's very easy to manage, trust me. And it's fun as hell.
