Why isn't this offense more effective? It looks to me that there are two main problems.

1) Childress is not doing a good job of calling plays or managing the game in general. I like the fact that he sticks with the run, especially given the fact that the ground game has yet to kick in at full swing. I even like some of the unconventional plays he's called in certain key situations. But overall, many of the fans are left scratching their heads during much of the game when the offense isn't able to move the ball because of very questionable strategies. It may be time to give the playcalling responsibility to Bevell, the guy who spends all of his time working with the offense.

2) The offense as a whole seems to be lacking mental discipline and motivation. Obviously the penalties and dropped passes are mental errors. Players seem to tune out and lose their focus during the bulk of the game, performing well only when they are fresh at the begining and feeling urgency at the end. When it comes down to it, each player is responsible for his mental state during the game, but Brad Johnson and the coaching staff need to address this. If players can't stay fired up for the duration of each game, it's going to be a bad season.

Once these problems are solved, I'd expect that the Vikes would perform much more efficiently. Thoughts?
