The Lions released wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim on Monday.

Hakim, 29, was signed on September 12 to help shore up the receiver core. He played in six games and had 17 catches for 147 yards and no TDs. His best game came against Minnesota on Oct. 8, when he made eight receptions for 92 yards.

It was Hakim's second tour with the Lions. He also played for the team from 2002-2004, appearing in 36 games (27 starts).

great quote from yahoo sports about this in their power rankings:

31. Detroit Lions (1-6) – Another day, another move from the Lions that makes no sense. Wideout Az Hakim was signed after the first game of the season and became the team's third leading wideout. Now he's been cut for "football reasons". Maybe his mistake was actually contributing.
