Default Improvement a 2-way street for Muhammad

Quote:
He isn't exactly hearing the footsteps of Father Time behind him yet.

But when Muhsin Muhammad returned to practice Tuesday after missing five straight sessions because of "general soreness," the veteran wide receiver had a new perspective on taking advice from experts.

"Coaches and others say, 'Moose, do this' or 'do that,' " Muhammad said. "Now I need to listen to some of that stuff."

Muhammad also said he is not feeling the pressure from young players who someday could replace him.

For all of the attention lavished on Bernard Berrian, Devin Hester and the Bears' other young receivers, "I still feel like one of the generals over here," Muhammad said. "I still feel like a go-to kind of guy. Actually, I'm pleased to have the weapons and talent around me."

Virtually every receiver privately has cited the help Muhammad has given them in the different elements of being an NFL professional."When I got here it was a case where they were looking not only for a go-to guy but also to develop the talent that we had," said Muhammad, who has more years as an NFL receiver than Berrian, Hester, Mark Bradley and Rashied Davis combined. "And I feel like I've definitely helped some of these guys become complete players and helped hone their skills.

"And when you do that, everybody's better. Who wants to get 1,500 yards and only win three games?"

So what about a future in coaching?

"I'm still playing, man," Muhammad protested. "If they want to pay me a coach's salary on top of what I'm making already, I'd be fine with that."
