Del Rio has to cut the team to 75 by Tuesday, but this round of cuts isn’t expected to create much anxiety. The Jaguars placed linebacker Tony Gilbert on the injured reserve list with a biceps injury, assigned defensive end Brian Smith (hip) to the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list and waived kicker Aaron Elling.

The Jaguars are having to deal with a rash of injuries at linebacker – Clint Ingram (ankle) and Pat Thomas (hamstring) still can’t practice – and the team has signed former first-round pick Chris Claiborne and linebacker Kevis Coley. The Jaguars also signed defensive tackle Joe Anoai. Those moves put the Jaguars roster at 86. The Jaguars will have to cut 11 players from their roster by four p.m. on Tuesday.

“Have I seen everything I need to see? Well, I’ve seen everything I’m going to see,” Del Rio said. “I think what I need to see I can’t possibly see until the regular season, when I do need to see certain things.”[/b]

Popular Jaguars special teams star Nick Sorensen is the headliner in a round of cuts that took the team’s roster to the required 75-man limit.

Also gone are: running backs Derrick Wimbush and D.D. Terry, linebacker Jorge Cordova, tight end Jermaine Wiggins, wide receivers Jimmy Farris, D’Juan Woods and Roosevelt Kiser, defensive end Jeremy Mincey, offensive tackle Andrew Carnahan and quarterback Lester Ricard. Carnahan is the first draft pick to be cut.

The Jaguars have 76 players on their roster but offensive tackle Sam Gutekunst is roster-exempt. Gutekunst is a year-long practice-squad player who came to the Jaguars with a NFL Europa exemption.

All NFL rosters must be reduced to 53 players by four p.m. on Saturday. Teams will begin signing players to practice squads on Sunday.

I don't know a lot about Chris Claiborne, but since Tony Gilbert is on IR now, we need another LB. Gilbert was a special teams beast too. That sucks to hear.

Good riddens to Sorensen, thanks for sucking for so long. Good riddens to Cordova too. Wiggins cut was expected. We have Greg Estandia, and George Wrighster can easily play the H-Back.

I am really suprised @ the Wimbush cut. He was a really good special teams player, shockingly-good return man, and a very good full back. Great lead blocker. I expect Houston to sign him soon.

I think the other guys are practice squad players unless they sign elsewhere. The coaching staff really likes DD Terry so I'm suprised they cut him now instead of Saturday.
