Mueller says Dolphins want to keep Chambers
Mueller says Dolphins want to keep Chambers
Quote:
General Manager Randy Mueller said the Dolphins are pleased with receiver Chris Chambers and want him to stay during an internet radio interview on miamidolphins.com Wednesday.
Mueller was responding to an NFL Network story Tuesday suggesting that Chambers was on the trading block.
"He is fine. We're happy to have Chris Chambers," Mueller said in the interview. "Obviously, he is a good player, and we hope that he is here a long time."
Chambers, who was a Pro Bowl pick in 2005 with 82 catches (1,118 yards) with 11 touchdowns, dropped off to 59 catches (677 yards) with four touchdowns last season. Any trade of Chambers would involve a team inheriting a salary cap number of more than $7 million.
"This is the time of year when all kind of crazy things are explored by a lot of teams," Mueller said. "We hear these things, not only with Chris, but many more of our players. It is not uncommon for other teams to call us and inquire about our players or for us to inquire about other teams' players, even though we know that there is a 99 percent chance that they never happen."
