Default McCareins Has Got to Go; Jets Fall Short 20-13

The New York Jets looked dead in the water early in the fourth quarter as 97-year-old kicker, Matt Stover put the Ravens up 20-3. However, Kellen Clemens and the offense finally woke up, and led a comeback attempt that was two dropped Justin McCareins passes away from a tie game. Yes, the Jets may have lost in OT or at the end of regulation on a Stover kick, but come on, this has got to be the end of McCareins in New York. It has been nothing but disaster. He came from Tennessee in 2004 with such promise, but had a bad first year. So then, former coach, Herm Edwards hired his old offensive coordinator from Tennessee in hopes that would help him. Well that did about as good as Lindsay Lohan's movie career, and with Mangini at the helm, McCareins' work load went down drastically last season.

However, when Clemens and the Jets needed to stretch out the offense, down the stretch this afternoon, McCareins was called upon to play as the slot receiver. The other receivers did just fine. Cotchery made big catch after big catch, and paid for it by being crushed everytime he caught a pass. Jerricho is turning into some, some player. Coles caught a couple key passes as well. He did drop a tough, low pass in the endzone that he normally catches, but how can you knock Laveranues. Even Chris Baker made a great TD grab on the previous possession.

But, back to the goat. McCareins dropped a perfect pass from Clemens that he easily would have run into the endzone. I do not know if he was thinking too soon about the endzone, but when your profession in life is to catch footballs, you had better catch that! This is not a play in the first quarter we will all forget about. Then, on the game ending interception, McCareins could not bring down a slighty high pass from Clemens. Instead it pops up right off his hands and lands in Ray Lewis's lap. At least have the foresight to bring the ball down and give your QB two more tries.

Justin McCareins may work hard in camp and impress in training camp, but he has been a bum ever since the Jets traded for him. He let the team down big time today like he has in his 3+ years as a Jet. It is time for Justin to go!
