Default 49ers Dilfer gets the starting call against Giants

Dilfer gets the starting call against Giants
From Sporting Green 49ers beat writer John Crumpacker:

Let's hope Trent Dilfer doesn't join the numerous dead bodies reputed to be buried in the New Jersey Meadowlands by the time he's finished quarterbacking the 49ers against the Giants on Sunday.

He'll be San Francisco's starter while Alex Smith's right shoulder heals. It's probably a good thing Smith won't play in this game, given the likelihood that he would be sacked by Osi Umenyiora or Michael Strahan or both at the same time.

Dilfer is a good foot soldier, a sturdy man who knows what it's like to be sacked.

"I've been down this road before," he said.

Things do not look promising for the Team of the 80's. The 49ers have lost three in a row while the Giants have won four straight.
