Tampa Bay's Garcia leaves game with back injury
Sunday, November 25, 2007

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Tampa Bay quarterback Jeff Garcia injured his back on the first play of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins. He left the field two plays later and remained on the sideline until early in the fourth quarter.

Garcia was shaken up when he scrambled for a 1-yard gain and was tackled by Washington defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin. He left after being hit as he threw an incompletion and later walked into the locker room.

Although the Bucs said he was expected to return, the 37-year-old quarterback stood on the sideline wearing a baseball cap after rejoining his teammates later in the first quarter. Second-year pro Bruce Gradkowski replaced him, and Tampa Bay led 19-3 at the half.

By the time Garcia returned with just over 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Washington had trimmed its deficit to 19-13.
