Mock Draft 1.0
1) Miami Dolphins
Chris Long -- DE Virgina
A Classic 3-4 DE. He has the ability to be stout against the run as well as command double teams that allow LBers to come off the edge with little resistance. He is going to make average LBers All-Pro players.
2) St. Louis Rams
Jake Long -- OT Michigan
Its simple with the Rams. They want to win with offense and the types of routes their WRs run need time to develop. Orlando Pace isn't what he once was and even if he can squeeze a year or two out of his deflating tank Long can dominate at RT until its time to take over at LT.
3)Kansas City Chiefs
Glenn Dorsey -- DT LSU
He is the dominate pressence they where hoping Ryan Sims was going to be. He will be a beast against the run and collapse the pocket on passing downs. He will improve the play of both the LBs and DBs much like he did when healthy at LSU.
4)Oakland Raiders
Sedrick Ellis -- DT USC
Most people think Al Davis is destined to take McFadden but don't believe the hype. The Raiders have grown into a team that wins on defense and with the departure of Warren Sapp they have a big hole to fill. Ellis will bring the talent the question is who will take over as the leader.
5)Atlanta Falcons
Darren McFadden -- RB Arkansas
QB is definitely a big problem but the quickest way to fix any team is RB. Think Adrian Peterson -- hom much better is Tarvaris Jackson compared to a Joey Harrington or Byron Leftwich. He has the ability to make any offense look good as well as being able to sell tickets at the box office. Also look for Chad Henne in the 2nd or 3rd.
6)New York Jets
Kenny Phillips -- S Miami(Fl.)
They need an eraser at Safety. An eraser is a player that can cover up the mistakes of the players in front of them. That eraser factor is why we are seeing at least one safety drafted in the top 10 since the drafting of Sean Taylor.
7)New England Patriots
Felix Jones -- RB Arkansas
First let me say in hindsight that was a horrible trade by the 49ers but at the time of the trade it looked decent. Now Kevin Faulk won't last forever and Jones can be everything Faulk is with about 10 times the speed Faulk has.
8)Baltimore Ravens
Matt Ryan -- QB Boston College
Its simple they don't have confidence in any of the QBs currently on their roster. Their aren't any "elite" QB prospects which is why the first QB doesn't come of the board until the 8th pick.
9)Cincinnati Bengals
Keith Rivers -- OLB USC
They need as many impovements as they can find on defense. At this point in the draft Rivers will be the highest rated defender on the board. And Lewis will finally find that LB with that Ray Lewis type of talent.
10)New Orleans Saints
Mike Jenkins -- CB South Flordia
Two words that evey offensive-coordinator loved to hear this past season -- Jason David.
11)Buffalo Bills
Limas Sweed -- WR Texas
They need a WR who can be dangerous running routes in the middle of the field and if his 40 times are what I expect them to be people may start comparing him to a young Terrell Owens -- a player who can take a 5 yard hitch the distance.
12)Denver Broncos
Ryan Clady -- OT Boise St.
Their offense begins and ends at the offensive line. With the retirement of Lepsis it is vital to find an adequate replacement.
13)Carolina Panthers
Andre Woodson -- QB Kentucky
Their entire season went up in smoke when Jake Delhomme was injured. Woodson will provide them with a QB who is accurate with the arm strength to get the ball to Steve Smith downfield.
14)Chicago Bears
Jonathan Stewart -- RB Oregan
Many people think QB is at the top of their list but their team is built to run the ball and stop the run. If the people in the Bears front office are honest with themselves Stewart will be the pick if not Andre Woodson will be the pick and teams will kill them because Benson couldn't run over a Kicker head-up.
15)Detroit Lions
Jeff Otah -- OT Pittsburg
If the Lions are to continue to improve they must find lineman who can open holes for their running backs. If they can get teams to respect their running game the Lions will go to the playoffs next year.
16)Arizona Cardinals
Vernon Gholston -- DE Ohio St.
They have the DTs to stop the run now they need to focus on finding DEs who can bring pressure off the edges. Pressure from the front 4 will make the DBs look that much better.
17)Minnesota Vikings
Desean Jackson -- WR California
They need WRs who won't drop the ball when thrown to them. Jackson is the dynamic WR the drafted Williamson to be and it is painfully obvious Williamson will never be that WR.
18)Houston Texans
Reggie Smith -- S Oklahoma
They continue to build their defense through the draft. Smith isn't quite the eraser Phillips is but he is a playmaker and he will look better because he has a better D-Line in front of him.
19)Philadelphia Eagles
Sam Baker -- OT USC
When I watched Eagles games one of the things I noticed was Winson Justice was eaten up by whoever was in front of him.
20)Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Brian Brohm -- QB Louisiville
To run the West Coast offense you need a QB who can make quick decisions and be accurate with every pass and Brohm is the perfect fit for the Buccs offense.
21)Washington Redskins
Derrick Harvey -- DE Flordia
Their DBs can compete with any set of WRs in the league but if they want their playmaking abilities to shine they need to start bringing pressure with their front 4 and that means finding someone to play opposite Andre Carter.
22)Dallas Cowboys
Rashard Mendenhall -- RB Illionis
I don't expect Julis Jones to be a Cowboy next year and Barber has always had a complement at RB since Minnesota and Laurence Maroney.
23)Pittsburgh Steelers
Calais Campbell -- DE Miami(Fl.)
He size will allow him to play DE in the Steelers 3-4 scheme. The Steelers success is due to their ability to run and stop the run with stopping the run being at the top of their list and stopping the run falls squarely on their D-Line winning the battles at the point of attack.
24)Tennessee Titans
Leodis McKelvin -- CB Troy
Don't look for Pacman to be a Titan this upcoming season and I believe the depth at WR is much greater than the depth at CB in this draft.
25)Seattle Seahawks
Roy Schuening -- OG Oregon St.
They need to recreate the dominance their O-Line once had. I think they realize Steve Hutchinson was more important to their success than Shaun Alexander.
26)Jacksonville Jaguars
Dan Connor -- OLB Penn St.
The Jaguars have one of the most imposing D-Lines in the NFL now the need to complement that with playmaking LBers outside of Mike Peterson.
27)San Diego Chargers
Pat Sims -- NT Auburn
Look for them to find a D-Lineman who can play any of the three positions up-front. Jamal Williams needs someone who will allow him to stay fresh into the playoffs.
28)Dallas Cowboys
Frank Okam -- NT Texas
Their defense can't operate without a NT that can eat up blockers to keep their LBers clean and free to roam. Okam is a very big body that is strong at the point of attack.
29)San Francisco 49ers
Malcom Kelly -- WR Oklahoma
They need a legit #1 WR in order to say they gave Alex Smith a legit chance to be a successful QB in this league.
30)Green Bay Packers
Fred Davis -- TE USC
I think the one thing they are missing on offense is a pass-catching TE. Davis has shown he can be a very dynamic WR at the TE position. Depending on how Davis runs he might not be here when the Packers pick.
31)New York Giants
Early Doucet -- WR LSU
I don't expect Toomer to be back next year. And Steve Smith is best used as a 3rd option while Sinorce Moss will never be more than a special teams contributor. So look for the Giants to find a #2 WR opposite Plaxico Burress.
