I tend to look at the facts.
Like that Don Coryell learned from Gilman who is the one BILL WALSH says is the father of the modern passing game.
What does Bill Walsh know about a passing game right?
Is that what youre saying?
Walsh morphed Paul Brown with Sid Gilman to exploit the new rule changes in 78. Teams were built to stop power running teams and Walsh offense created mismatches like LBs on RBs. Defenses played Dinosaur football back then and Walsh employed timing routes where the QB released the ball before his WR made his break. He also had his QB call out the pass blocking schemes where traditional offenses use the center. But more importantly, the QB has more options in his progression than all other offenses. Combine that with Paul Browns bait and trap style run blocking schemes and you have a recipe for success that influenced far more than Coryells contributions. Walsh was the first to use the pass to set up the run too which forced teams to go to nickel and dime packages as teams spread the field on first & down more.
Teams didnt do that back then and instead tried to grind it out with power rushing.
But foir you to use John Madden is too much.
Madden was succesful with the old rules pre 1978 where Coryells scheme exploited the new rule changes. Coryell didnt come into the league until 78.
I believe Madden was an assistant with him at SDSU.
Al Davis is who schooled John Madden.
Nice try!
