Default Shadow's Top 50 Cowboys of All Time

50.Terence Newman-Once went over 16 games without giving up a TD. We'll miss this guy the day he leaves.

49.Larry Cole-Drover got it right, dude was consistent and reliable.

48.Greg Ellis-His versatility with the change to linebacker and then getting 12.5 sacks is why i have him here. He was never a bad player and is dangerous as hell if you're paying too much attention to Demarcus Ware.

47.Jason Witten-A few more stellar years and this guy will be in the top 20, if not 15.

46.Ray Donaldson-Spent his last two of 17 seasons with Dallas, earning Pro Bowl nods in 1994 and 1995.

45.Ken Norton-Was with us for two Super Bowl wins, then bailed for San Fran and won another. Made the pro bowl with us in 1993.

44.John Niland-A 6 Time Pro Bowler and 2 Time All Pro as a Left Guard during his 10 seasons. Spent one year in Philly before retiring.

43.Calvin Hill-Got a few 1,000 yard rushing seasons for us, and 42 Touchdowns.

42.Walt Garrison-A big time Fullback for Dallas in the early 70's. Averaged about 5 touchdowns a year and 35 receptions as a starter.

41.Bob Breunig-Netted 3 pro bowl selections as the Cowboy Middle Linebacker in the early 1980's.

40.Ron Springs-Scored 10 touchdowns for the Boys as a Fullback in 1981.

39.Charlie Waters-played alongside Cliff Harris, and both were great in their prime together for a few years.

38.Mike Ditka-Took a blocking role with our team, but is clearly a top 5 Tight End all time with the likes of Tony Gonzalez, John Mackey, Kellen Winslow Senior and Shannon Sharpe.

37.George Andrie-Made 5 pro bowls as a Defensive End for the Cowboys. Made for a crazy good Right side of the line with Bob Lilly.

36.Cornell Green-A great compliment to Mel Renfro in the 60's, made 5 pro bowls and had over 30 interceptions.

35.Billy Joe Dupree-A nice Tight End for Staubach to chuck the ball at, he made three pro bowls.

34.Cliff Harris-A great Free Safety for the Cowboys in the late 70's, Harris made 6 straight Pro Bowls.

33.Chuck Howley-a 5 time all pro, Howley made a great tandem with Lee Roy Jordan in the 1960's.

32.Harvey Martin-Teamed up with Randy White and Too Tall Jones to form a great defensive line for years.

32.Ralph Neely-At Left Tackle, formed an awesome tandem with Rayfield Wright to protect Roger Staubach from opponent's defensive ends.

31.Danny White-He was a good QB considering his contributions during the Cowboys slow slide below the 49ers in the 1980's. While not in my top 3 Dallas Qb's, White would still be better than the Quarterbacks we tried to replace Aikman with.

30.Nate Newton-Lost some points here because of his off the field craziness, but he was still a great addition to our O-line during the early 90's.

29.Rayfield Wright-A great lineman to protect Staubach's right side for years. Wright made the pro bowl 6 times and was all pro 3 times.

28.Lee Roy Jordan-One of the top 15 MLB's of all time, and definitely the best that the Cowboys have had to offer. The guy could nail you to the wall or just pick off a pass and make your QB afraid to throw to the middle.

27.Charles Haley-If only we had gotten this guy even earlier. Jimmy Johnson said the moment we had Haley he was the best defensive lineman we had. He helped us become America's team once again.

26.Jim Jeffcoat-Totaled over 100 sacks, and helped the Cowboys get their defense together and become the ruthless attackers in the 90's.

25.Jimmy Johnson-This guy got us two SB wins and virtually a third seeing as Switzer got there with Johnson's talent. It's a real shame that Jerry Jones had to be a ******* and get rid of him.

24.Tony Hill-An awesome receiver, making the pro bowl three times and averaged over 16 yards per reception. Had three seasons where he caught for over 1,000 yards.

23.Mark Tuinei-A great Left Tackle during the dynasty years, and was Troy Aikman's main protector since Troy's first game in the league.

22.Deion Sanders-He lost some spots because he didn't spend his entire career with us, but he spent 5 seasons, and helped us earn our last Super Bowl win in 1995. He'll go down as one of the greatest cornerbacks and returnmen ever, and we were lucky to have him.

21.Don Meredith-Dandy Don, the original Cowboy QB. Meredith teamed up with Bob Hayes to lead the Cowboys to have a reputation as more than just an expansion team. Had troubles with interceptions, but overall a damn good QB back in the day.

20.Jay Novacek-Troy Aikman was sure glad to have Novacek around, who teamed up with Michael Irvin and Alvin Harper to form a scary vertical attack. Novacek was an outstanding blocker and will be considered the greatest TE in Cowboys history, at least for a few more seasons anyway.

19.Darryl Johnston-Best Fullback we've had, and sprung Emmitt Smith for yards in the myriads. A very capable runner himself in extreme short yardage situations, Johnston was the perfect backfield compliment to Emmitt and a true asset to the dynasty.

18.Too Tall Jones-Damn, this guy was scary. At 6-9, he was an imposing force on Quarterbacks for 15 seasons. Would have had over 100 sacks if counted before 1982. Teamed up with Randy White and Harvey Martin for a simply awesome defensive line for years.

17.Bob Hayes-20 yards per reception? Shiiiittt, that's Paul Warfield territory, and fitting for on of the fastest men ever. He caught 71 Touchdowns and gave Don Meredith one helluva target.

16.Mark Stepnoski-Hands down the greatest Center in Cowboy's history. He was a dominant lineman during our dynasty years, and it was a shame that we had to lose him to Houston when he was in his prime.

15.Bill Bates-For a free agent, Bates was pretty freakin' nice to have around. Throughout the 80's he was a mainstay at strong safety, and exceeded all expectations as a Cowboy, something most players on the roster during that time wish they could have done.

14.Everson Walls-An asset at cornerback, Walls racked up 57 interceptions over 12 seasons, an incredible 18 in his first two years. For more reasons than one, Walls is one of Dallas' finest.

13.Erik Williams-Wow, is all i can say. Williams was another key figure in our dominant Offensive Line for the 1990's. Defensive ends would rather play pass coverage than actually rush the QB when facing Erik Williams.

12.Darren Woodson-A player we've SORELY missed since his retirement after the 2003 season. I'm sure you all agree with that. Woodson was an anchor in the secondary, teaming up with Kevin Smith to make the right side of the field a place that opponents did NOT want to venture. IMO this is my pick for the greatest man we've ever had in the secondary.

11.Drew Pearson-A member of the 1970's All Decade Team, and Roger Staubach's best weapon during that time. Pearson made some intense plays for us, and averaged a damn impressive 16 yards per reception. Fast and elusive, Pearson was a cog in our early Super Bowl victories.

10.Mel Renfro-Ten straight Pro Bowls, TEN. There's only one other Cowboy who i thought was better in the 60's. Renfro dominated at Free Safety and later Cornerback for 14 seasons. Had 52 Interceptions and just has to be in my top 10.

9.Randy White-It's pretty amazing how lucky we were with D-lineman our first three decades as a franchise. White earned 7 All Pro and 9 Pro Bowl nominations, and probably had over 100 sacks when all was said in done, which is pretty astounding for any defensive tackle. Randy White was considered half man, half monster, the Manster..tearing up Quarterbacks till 1988. we'd kill to have this guy as our Nose Tackle right now.

8.Larry Allen-Made the Pro Bowl at three different positions, but is probably the most dominant guard of all time, no disrespect to John Hannah. Larry Allen was freaking HUGE at 325 ilbs, and used his weight and quickness to absolutely maul Defensive Lineman for years. He consistently pushed them over 5 yards back play after play, and was a gem in our defunct late 90's days. yet another player that we released too early, he went to the pro bowl for San Francisco in 2006.

7.Tony Dorsett-I don't think anyone here will ever stop enjoying that 99 yard Touchdown run, because i sure as hell won't. We traded more than a few draft picks for the chance at Dorsett, and boy were we glad we got him. The majority of Dorsett's career was during a time of Cowboy's mediocrity, but he was never the reason why. With eight 1,000 yard rushing seasons, as well as 90 touchdowns, Dorsett was a constant home run threat who could run between the tackles. It's pretty crazy to think that we've had a running back who was better than Dorsett. I'll bet the Packers wish they could say that.

6.Michael Irvin-The last of the triplets, and one of the most dynamic and energetic players we've ever had. Despite his off the field issues, Irvin gave 189% every game, and made some amazing catches and plays for us during his 10 year career. Great hands, separation and athleticism, Michael Irvin drew double coverage and gave Alvin Harper and Jay Novacek room to work with. Irvin's Hall of Fame induction capped off an amazing era in Cowboys history, and we're definitely proud that he was a part of it.

5.Bob Lilly-Quite possibly the most dominate Defensive Tackle of All Time, far more consistent and durable than Mean Joe Greene, more disruptive than Merlin Olsen and more intimidating than John Randle, Lilly had it all. For 14 long years opponents had to deal with the pass rushing dynamo, who was actually the Cowboy's first overall draft pick ever way back in 1961. He missed just ONE game in his entire career, something that's barely fathomable considering the amount of energy he gave on every play. Lilly is even on TSN's top 10 list of greatest NFl players EVER.

4.Tom Landry-This man took an expansion team and was the MAN behind it all for 30 years. Nowadays a tenure of 10 years is considered incredible. Landry netted us 2 Super Bowl victories as well as 5 appearances during his time as the Cowboys coach. Any team would have loved to have Tom Landry as their coach.

3.Roger Staubach-Talk about a draft steal. We get this guy over 10 rounds deep and after 5 years of service, Roger the Dodger became one of the most dazzling quarterbacks in NFL history. Leading us to two Super Bowl wins, as well as being responsible for the original Hail Mary pass to Drew Pearson. He led the NFL in passer rating 4 different years, named to the All Pro team 5 times and went to the Pro Bowl 6 times. The man behind America's Team.

2. Troy Aikman-His 90 wins in the 1990's is the most wins in a decade by any quarterback. Accurate, poised, and composed, Aikman helped lead a Cowboys team from worst to first in a matter of a few years. 3 Super Bowl rings is something only a handful of Quarterbacks in the history of football can say they've earned.

1. Emmitt Smith-This is easily my favorite and IMO the best cowboy ever. Everyone knows the amount of effort Emmitt gave every game, and his durability was simply astounding. Has a record that might never be broken now that LaDainian Tomlinson is hinting at retirement. Had 11 straight 1,000 yard rushing seasons, a whopping 175 Touchdowns and over 500 receptions and 8 pro bowl selections. Dallas screwed up big time by letting him go for Troy Hambrick. Emmitt outproduced him in his final year with Arizona.
