I think from a psychological standpoint, he may be worse of never admitting it. That doubt and suspicion is gonna follow him everywhere he goes. If he admitted it, he could just go into seclusion (Im obviosly ignoring his possible prison time) and people would forget about it. They would find him and hound him if he maintains his stance for the rest of his life. He's in his own personal hell
