The 49ers completed two deals Thursday, signing first-round pick Manny Lawson and trading quarterback Cody Pickett, but they were still trying to reach a contract agreement with their top pick, tight end Vernon Davis, on the eve of their first training-camp practice.
Coach Mike Nolan said he remained hopeful that a deal with Davis, the last unsigned member of the 2006 draft class, could be struck in time for him to join the team at practice today.
``We'll just have to wait and see,'' Nolan said.
Late Thursday, Lawson ensured his presence by agreeing to a five-year deal. The 22nd pick overall out of North Carolina State, Lawson is a pass-rushing linebacker who is expected to start in place of departed free agent Julian Peterson.
