Default Packers cut Freeman

Article:
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=348435

Excerpt:
Safety Arturo Freeman had made 199 tackles and five interceptions in the five previous years in Miami under Bates. The free agent followed Bates to Green Bay in the off-season for two reasons. First, he expected to start at either free or strong safety and lead the Packers secondary. Second, he hoped to teach his new teammates the new Bates scheme he knew so well.

But as the Packers headed into the 20th day of training camp Sunday, Freeman saw rookie second-round draft pick Nick Collins getting more practice time with the starting defense. Freeman no longer saw his career aspirations working out in Green Bay, so he was released, at his request, on Sunday.

My Take:
I would have thought we'd want to keep all the depth we could along the secondary. The more players we cut there, the closer we come to having Ahmad Carroll back on the field..
