Default Seau receives game ball

Excerpt:
FOXBORO - Bill Belichick caught Junior Seau watching film just before 6 a.m. Monday and considered it a sign of Seau’s dedication.

Seau offered a simpler explanation.

“I’m dumb,” he joked. “I need a lot of work.”

Regardless, it’s clear Seau has made an impression early in his Patriots career. The 17-year veteran, who signed during training camp after three days of retirement, received a game ball for his efforts in Sunday’s 19-17 victory against the Bills.

Seau recorded eight tackles and made one of the unsung plays of the game, blanketing tight end Robert Royal 35 yards downfield and robbing J.P. Losman of his intended target on what became the game-winning safety.

“Winning is everything in this league,” Seau said. “It’s all that matters to me.”

He has proven that to his teammates with his work ethic and ability to simplify the game.

“He’s a no-worry kind of guy,” fellow linebacker Tully Banta-Cain said. “He doesn’t look too worried that he’s going to make a mistake. He has a reckless abandon about him when he plays, and I admire that. If you’re really prepared and know what you have to do, you can play a lot faster. It’s not easy to do in this scheme, but he’s done a good job of adjusting to know when he can pick his spots.”

Seau wasn’t interested in discussing his game ball.

“It’s time to go on to the next game,” he said.
