Default N.C. State hopes young players blossom into big performers

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The pieces were falling into place, and North Carolina State showed signs late last season that it might be a serious contender for the Atlantic Coast Conference title this year.

Then came the exodus.

Defensive end Mario Williams left school early and entered the NFL draft. So did linebacker Stephen Tulloch. Offensive lineman Derek Morris and defensive tackle John McCargo followed them to the pros.

All of a sudden, what was a sure-bet promising season turned into another rebuilding year for coach Chuck Amato.

``It seems like every year, we talk about it ... how

The fact they lost to Akron proves that. I would normally think that the Wolfpack could beat Southern Miss, but... if they can't handle the Zips, they might not be able to handle the Golden Eagles. It's all pretty messed up.

The Wolfpack has good defense and special teams, but their offense really needs work. It's problematic for them. I hope they can get it in gear for Saturday's match against Southern Miss. NC State won last season in Raleigh 21-17, but this season, the Golden Eagles get the Home Field Advantage, so the pressure is really on the Wolfpack to perform (and perform well).

Though I'm a Vols fan,
In the ACC,
Ya gotta back the 'Pack!!

Not necessarily true. A lot of people thought Fulmer would lose his job after a 2005 record of 5-6. One of the worst Vol records ever. But Fulmer is still head coach (his best decision this season was the inclusion of Cutcliffe as O-coordinator). If he can pull a winning season, he just might save his Tennessee legacy.

Same thing goes for Chuck Amato. A lot of people in the Raleigh area are very pro-Amato. I think he'll still be head coach, even if the Pack has a lackluster season this year. We'll see.

They lost a lot of guys to the pros, but there is no excure for losing to Akron. Plus the offense is terrible, I really think if my man Amato wants to keep his job, he is going to have to win 6 games.

Well NC State fans, salvation is commin'. cause next year Harrison Bitc.....uhh Beck will bring three championships to NC State while he's there. just ask his mommy. Now I'm not bustin' on Nc State per se, but there is another Nebraska QB transfer in that state that's ... well not gettin the job done. Keep Stone as the QB and I'll think they'll be alright.

I think Amato has to be gone...After claiming NC State was on the way up, he hasnt even been to an ACC Championship game. He definetly has had the talent if you look at the people he is putting in the pros.

How are you going to lose to Akron and blame it on their admission policies??? Are you kidding me.
