Gerald was the only commit to change his mind on NSD. He decided to sign with Southern Miss. I hope him well in his college indeavors.

Default New Tide Commit for 2010

HB - Jalston Fowler (Vigor HS/Mobile, AL) 6-0/242/4.6 - Alabama received it's second verbal commitment for the 2010 class today when Mobile standout, Jalston Fowler, decided to end his recruitment. Fowler was an important part of Vigor's championship team last fall with over 1500 yards and total offense while scoring 27 touchdowns. He projects as a jumbo/fullback in college football but has stated the he doesn't mind where he plays as long as he has a spot. Jalston will be in a bit of an unusual situation for his senior season as he will miss the eligibility cutoff date by a few days. The plus side is an early graduation in December of 2009 and will not count against the 2010 class. He will most likely still be recruited by other schools and could still receiver offers, but he has indicated that he has no desire to play anywhere other than Alabama.

OL - Austin Shepherd (N. Gwinnett HS/Suwanee, GA) 6'5", 315, 5.5.

The Crimson Tide reached out of state to secure its third verbal commitment today from offensive lineman Austin Shepherd out of Suwanee, GA. Austin is considered one of the top offensive line prospects in the state of Georgia this year and is projected to play inside, at guard, during his collegiate career. Austin received his offer from UA just a few weeks ago and has several schools from the Southeast who have been recruiting him including Georgia, Florida State, Auburn, Georgia Tech to name a few.

Evaluations from his last combine reported he had made progress in his physique but still had a room for improvement. He was considered one of the hardest workers at the camp and was also said to possess "quite a mean streak" when it came to individual competition.

There is a possibility Shepherd may graduate in December of 2009 which would allow him to enroll at UA in January of 2010.

S - Nick Perry(Prattville HS/Prattville, AL) 6-2/198/4.58 - Alabama secured a commitment from one of the state's top players when Nick Perry decided to end his recruitment today. The safety standout from Prattville is a head hunter when the ball is in the air. He has a quick first step and an incredible ability to make quick reads on the play and find the ball. Perry has the frame to carry 215 pounds without losing any speed and should be a very physical player at the next level. Nick is the 4th player to commit for the Tide in the 2010 class. He chose Alabama over early offers from LSU, Auburn, Stanford, Southern Miss and Vanderbilt.

QB - Phillip Sims - (Oscar F. Smith HS/Chesapeake, VA) 6-2/217/4.8 - The Crimson Tide’s class got a tremendous early momentum boost on Wednesday when Phillip Sims, one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects, surprised everyone and committed to Alabama during an unofficial visit to The Capstone. Sims is a pure quarterback prospect who can thrive in a pro-style system. He possesses a good arm, shows good accuracy, and displays nice composure and awareness in the pocket. He can make plays with his feet when things break down, but his arm is his primary weapon. As a junior last fall, Sims threw for 3,167 yards, 38 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions while leading his team to the state championship and a 15-0 record. Sims chose Alabama over offers from Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida State, Maryland, and Boston College among others. In the classroom, Sims is a solid student who is on track to qualify.

OL- JuWuan James (Suwanee (GA) North Gwinnett) 6′6″ / 293 lbs / 5.3 - The Alabama coaching staff continued to pick and choose players from outside the state lines as they received a verbal commitment today from offensive lineman JuWuan James. James is considered to be one of the top linemen available for the 2010 class, the #1 linemen out of the state of Georgia, and according to some has the tools to be a perfect left tackle at the Div. 1 level. When he joins the team he’ll need to work on strength and his run blocking skills but is considered an excellent pass blocker today due to his experience playing in a spread offense. He has the tools and physical capability to be one of the premier lineman in the nation in a few years having already turned a lot of heads with his flexibility, wing span and excellent foot work. He joins his team mate, Austin Shepard, as the 11th commitment of the 2010 class.

LB/DE - Craig Sanders (Atrion HS/Atrion, AL) 6-4/240/4.6 - One of the South’s top defensive end prospects ended his recruitment early Tuesday when he publicly committed to the Crimson Tide. Craig Sanders, of Atrion, AL, was one of Alabama’s top targets on the defensive side of the ball. He fits the bill perfectly for the Jack position in Nick Saban’s 3-4 defense, and he had been being recruited to play that position by the Tide coaches for over a year. On the field, Sanders displays good quickness off the edge, good agility, and has good range. He can fight off blocks, but also has the ability and moves to get around them at times, something that is very valuable for a pass rusher off the corner. Sanders is a tremendous athlete who has starred on both sides of the ball in high school. As a junior last fall, he was moved to running back after a month into the season, where he rushed for 1,057 yards on 121 carries and 16 touchdowns. From his more natural position on defense, he racked up 79 tackles, 19 sacks, and 5 forced fumbles. Sanders committed to Alabama over early offers from Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Florida State, Clemson, and Stanford among others. Off the field, Sanders is an excellent student who will have no problems qualifying.

Default 2010 Tide Commitment – Corey Grant

RB – Corey Grant (Opelika HS/Opelika, AL) 5-10/190/4.4 - Nick Saban’s cherry picking of the top in-state football talent continues. The latest in-state standout that has pledged to sign with Alabama in February is Opelika’s Corey Grant. Grant is not just one of the top players in the state; he’s one of the top running backs in the south. The Opelika back has tremendous speed, shows good vision, good footwork, and can get out on the corner in a hurry. The speedy back will bring some versatility with him to Tuscaloosa. He is almost sure to get a look as a return specialist on special teams, and an expanded role on offense could be in plans as well, specifically lining up in the slot where he can take advantage of his hands and speed. Last season, Grant rushed for 724 yards and 14 touchdowns on 88 carries to go along with 16 receptions for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns. Grant chose Alabama over offers from Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, and Stanford among others. In the classroom, he is a solid student who is on track to qualify

Default 2010 Tide Commitment – Brian Vogler

TE – Brian Vogler (Brookstone HS/Columbus, GA) 6-7/245/4.7 - The Crimson Tide secured a commitment from one of the south’s top tight end prospects today when Columbus, GA standout Brian Vogler chose Alabama over Oklahoma. Vogler has a big frame to go along with very good speed. He shows hands similar to a receiver, despite his size, but also has the ability to make all the blocks thanks to his frame and athleticism. As a junior last fall, Vogler hauled in 21 passes for 430 yards and 6 touchdowns, though he was mostly utilized as a blocker in his high school’s run oriented offense. He chose Alabama over offers from Tennessee, Auburn, South Carolina, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, and Boston College among others. Vogler is an excellent student who will have no issues qualifying academically.
