Cardinals notebook: Cornerback Rolle loses starting spot | EastValleyTribune.com
FLAGSTAFF - Cornerback Antrel Rolle, who had disappointing performances in the first two preseason games, is now practicing with the second-team defense.
He vows to fight his way back to the starting group, and he has nearly three weeks to do so.
“That’s the coach’s decision,” Rolle said of the move. “I just gotta go and play my game and be the player I know I can be.”
But if he doesn’t make it, then the Cardinals would be in the embarrassing position of having their top draft pick from just two years ago (and the No. 8 overall pick in the entire draft) play as a mere backup. Eric Green and Roderick Hood are the starters for now.
This development, however, doesn’t seem surprising, based on the two games when Rolle struggled with pass coverage. He also was flagged for interference penalties in each game.
“I have a lot of things to work on,” Rolle said. “There’s definitely room for improvement.
“I’ve got to keep working on my technique.”
