Default Cardinals' James asks for release

Cardinals' James asks for release
by Kent Somers - Nov. 19, 2008 06:40 PM
The Arizona Republic

Edgerrin James wants out of Arizona, but the Cardinals aren't ready to let him go just yet.

James' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, asked the Cardinals two weeks ago to release his client, and the team refused.

That request came in the days following the Cardinals' game against St. Louis on Nov. 2, a game in which James did not play a snap. In the Cardinals' past two games, James carried the ball three times for five yards.

"Edge is not looking to create a distraction or impact team chemistry," Rosenhaus said. "But this is a difficult situation for him. It's a very confusing decision, not just to not be starting but to not be contributing. He's in the prime of his career and he wants to contribute."

The hope, Rosenhaus said, is the Cardinals would spare a potential Hall of Famer "the indignity of standing on the sidelines."

There are other teams in need of a running back, Rosenhaus said, and James would rather join one of them this season rather than sit on the bench for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals refused the request because the Cardinals still view James as a valuable member of the team, General Manager Rod Graves said.

On PTI they mentioned this, and were saying how every team needs two RBs.... but isn't he now the third RB, after Hightower and Arrington?

I remember when he joined the Cards. It was the year the Colts(his former team)won the superbowl.

I think they should let him go
They got Hightower as a steal and they are not paying him much he will be more productive I feel
Might as well keep James happy

Hightower/Arrington isn't the best backfield though - maybe they'll look in the draft?
