The Falcons' search for a backup quarterback has shifted to Jay Fiedler, who's battling back from a severe shoulder injury.
Fiedler, a former starter with the Miami Dolphins, is set to work out for the Falcons today, according to his agent Bryan Levy.
The Falcons do not comment about visiting free agents.
With the recent trade of Matt Schaub to the Houston Texans, the Falcons don't have a backup quarterback who's played in a NFL game over the past three seasons. Recently signed Chris Redman last played during the 2003 season.
Second-year man D.J. Shockley, a seventh-round pick, did not play in any regular-season games last season. The Falcons also have James Kilian, a former seventh round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs and ex-Arena Football player with the Nashville Kats, on the roster.
Fiedler, a 12-year veteran, sat out last season rehabilitating his throwing shoulder after being released by Tampa Bay in June.
Fiedler last played in Week 3 of the 2005 season while a member of the New York Jets. Playing in relief of Chad Pennington, he suffered the shoulder injury in a 26-20 loss to Jacksonville.
Fiedler, 35, also has played with Philadelphia, Minnesota and Jacksonville. He's played in 76 games with 60 starts and is a 58.7 percent career passer. He's thrown 69 touchdowns and 66 interceptions.
