Default The New, Revived Falcons? Parcells to Fix Franchise's Woes

Some interesting developments for the Atlanta Falcons, who lost their head coach Bobby Petrino to Arkansas last week. Falcons' owner Arthur Blank, according to reports on NFL Network, ESPN, and Profootballtalk.com, is currently in New York to finalize a deal with former Cowboys, Jets, Patriots, and Giants head coach Bill Parcells to be Executive VP of Football Operations.

Parcells agreed to a deal, and he plans to install a new GM and head coach; Parcells' two choices belong to the Patriots - GM Scott Pioli, who is his son-in-law. The other is OC Josh McDaniels. If hired, according to speculation and reports, Parcells would make McDaniels the new head coach of the Falcons.

Quote:
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Falcons owner Arthur Blank is currently in New York to finalize a deal with Bill Parcells. Parcells is expected to be named executive VP of the Falcons and have full control over football operations. There is speculation that Parcells will pursue Patriots GM Scott Pioli, who is the tuna's son in law, and possibly along with him offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to be Atlanta's next head coach.
Quote:
The Falcons have offered Bill Parcells a job as the team's vice president of football operations, according to Chris Mortensen and the NY Daily News. "Under no circumstances is Bill Parcells ever going to return to the field," the Big Tuna said, showing that "retirement" hasn't slowed his use of the third person. "I think I probably will do it ... The job description is to be the football operations overseer ... I don't think there will be any major hangups." Parcells says he will hire a GM and a coach. And while the Falcons say they'd like to keep current GM Rich McKay in some role, look for the former Tampa executive to move on. San Francisco is a possibility.
Quote:
Adam Schefter of NFL network reports that Falcons owner Arthur Blank is in Saratoga, New York to finalize the terms of a contract with Bill Parcells.

Per multiple media reports, Parcells is expected to accept an offer to become executive vice president the Falcons. Despite the specific title, Parcells apparently would have full and complete control and authority over the football operation.

Several readers have inquired as to whether Blank can make such a hire without interviewing minority candidates. The so-called "Rooney Rule", however, applies only to the hiring of head coaches. The rule, which requires at least one face-to-face interview with a minority candidate, has not been extended to the hiring of key front office personnel.

With that said, the National Football League has encouraged teams to engage in inclusive and diverse search processes for the filling of key jobs, and the decision of the Falcons to focus exclusively on Parcells could result in a push to formally extend the Rooney rule beyond the position of head coach.
Quotes from Rotoworld and PFT.

Default Parcells Back Out of Deal

It seems Parcells won't be heading to Atlanta:

From Rotoworld:

Quote:
Owner Arthur Blank said Wednesday that Bill Parcells has backed out of his deal with Atlanta to be the team's next executive vice president. Parcells was in talks with Blank in Saratoga, New York Wednesday, but apparently didn't like something Blank told him. Profootballtalk.com speculates that Parcells may have gotten a better deal from the Dolphins.

a lot of people are scared to try and help out the organization. There is way to much to fix and it might take more then one season to do so.

Even a 1-13 team is more impressive/has more hope than the Falcons.

I wouldn't be surprised if he went with the dolphins, they don't have a mess like us.

I think it might be 3,4-5 years. They should be off to a good start with a high draft pic though.

I don't think it will take that long for them to get back to playoff contender. However they need the organization to have a strong foundation and build there way up.
