Default Brady Smith to be cut loose

Brady Smith: Expected to be Cut Loose

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Thursday, March 2, 2006
Update: The Falcons are expected to release Smith on Thursday, ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports.

Recommendation: By releasing the 10-year veteran, the Falcons will save $2.5 million against the salary cap. Smith was placed on injured reserve after suffering a lingering dislocated toe injury in Week 7. Rookies Jonathan Babineaux and Chauncey Davis made strides in Smith's absence, lessening the impact of his release.

Michael Vick: Gets Big Roster Bonus

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Thursday, March 2, 2006
Update: The Falcons guaranteed a $7 million roster bonus due to Vick, creating about $5.25 million of cap space for the team, ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports.

Recommendation: While it has no real net effect on Vick's contract, this move with the likely release of Brady Smith on Thursday should be enough to put the Falcons under the salary cap for 2006. It was earlier believed that Warrick Dunn might be released, but at this point it appears that he's safe.

That was a real good move on their part and now I'm starting to see why they extended the deadline by a couple days.

I forgot how well those rookies performed last season despite the disapointing season by the Falcons. Keeping Dunn was key since Duckett isn't a starting back.
