Default Report: Falcons pursuing USC's Carroll

The Falcons' coaching search may be getting juicier.

Late Tuesday night, ESPN.com, citing multiple sources, reported that Falcons owner Arthur Blank is pursuing USC coach Pete Carroll.

If the Trojans' coach expresses interest, Carroll and Blank could meet this weekend, according to the story, which did not identify the sources.

A former head coach with the New York Jets and New England Patriots, Carroll, 56, is 76-14 in seven seasons at Southern Cal. He has been courted by numerous NFL teams, but has stuck with the Trojans.

According to the story, the Falcons "might be willing to grant Carroll far-reaching responsibilities." The Falcons on Tuesday said they were extending their simaltaneous searches for a new head coach and general manager.

Most of the coaches interviewed by the Falcons or those on the list of potential candidates have been NFL assistant coaches and coordinators.

He should just stick to what he has, just use this as leverage to get more money if he wants it.

I don't see him going for a job like the Atl, if he ever decides to leave USC he will wait for a lot better job.

Any coach or wanna be coach would be crazy to inherit that mess in Georgia.

Well another offseason of him turning down Contracts, I think he wouldn't be successful in the NFL.

It's a very tough transition to make even for players. Many think success in college ball automatically means success in the NFL. Then try to find excusses when a particular player/coach didn't succeed.

Yeah, I understand it's a tough transition, but the thing is coaches never get a full attempt to make the transition because once they start to kind of get it after a year. Boom they're fired. I just think that he'd have pretty crappy results, you look at College, lot's of big plays given up, you look at the NFL, big plays given up maybe once a game. I don't know that's just my opinion. Stay is SoCal Pete, it's the smartest thing you can do.

Exactly that makes it even tougher. Plus there's a lot of cronyism going on and often new head coaches disrupt that system to compound the issues.
