D. Orlando Ledbetter reports defensive tackle Peria Jerry, the Falcons’ first-round draft pick, left the field under his own power after banging his knee with another player about halfway through Saturday’s morning practice. He did not participate in the evening practice.
After the practice, Falcons coach Mike Smith called the injury a mild sprain.
“He got banged up,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “We don’t know anything about it. He bumped knees, and we’ll know something by the end of the day. They took him in the training room to ice him.”
You would not think that a team that went to the playoffs would be counting on a rookie to come in and help. But the Falcons need him to help right away. They had to be thinking of drafting Glenn Dorsey last year and there was even talk that they might trade for him during the draft. So they can not afford for him to be hurt.
