As I said yesterday, I thought he would have more speed. He has been running with the 2nd team alot, Mike Anderson with the 1st team. Not like he never gets reps with the 1st team , he does. But I think they are holding him back and letting him watch.

yeah, like what was said when he was traded there... this isn't the same gamebreaking back as his senior year @ um. he's like a power back... without the power so much.

Sorry about the screw up, it wasn't Burgess I seen walking off. I have to get the new numbers down. It was Barns who I said I seen limping. Sorry.

Tuesday training camp: Off the Field
The only no-show to the second day of camp was Prescott Burgess. He's the rookie linebacker who made a name for himself when he surprised running back Willis McGahee with a hit and caused him to fumble.

The official word on Burgess is that he's suffering from the stomach flu. Wait, does anyone have the stomach flu in July? I think McGahee and the University of Miami crew got a hold of Burgess and tied him up somewhere.

GREGG HURT: Nose tackle Kelly Gregg caused some concern when he walked off the field with 30 minutes left in practice. He had his right knee wrapped in ice. But coach Brian Billick said it was a thigh bruise and didn't seem worried about it. Of course, it was Gregg's thigh that was hurt and not Billick's.

PAINFUL MISTAKE: Chris Chester could unseat Mike Flynn as the starting center sometime this season, but today he showed that he has a long way to go. Chester inadvertently snapped the ball on the wrong count, hurting Kyle Boller's throwing hand in the process.

Boller, who wasn't expecting the snap at that time, tried to shake it off but it clearly affected him during practice. (And to all those Boller haters out there, you can tell the difference in how Boller throws when he's healthy compared to when he's not).

HEISMAN WOE: Troy Smith, last season's Heisman Trophy winner, has a tremendously strong arm. The problem is that his throws sometimes go to the wrong player. He was intercepted twice downfield, showing some jitters and a lot of inaccuracy.

MOVING MASON: The Ravens showed a lot of three-receiver looks today. For most of practice, the Ravens split out Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams wide and used Mason in the slot.

After practice, Mason said he could play either inside or outside. But more importantly, he acknowledged that he could have handled himself better at the end of the season when he publicly vented his frustration over being de-emphasized in the offense.

It is new from a pre-existing. He had it scoped, he said 6 to 8 weeks. He was at camp walking very slow with no limp. I think it will be up to the team what happens at this point.

News About McGahee from camp.
Quote:
McGahee experiences jittery beginning with Ravens

By DAVID GINSBURG
July 31, 2007

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- Willis McGahee had barely gotten used to his new shoulder pads when it came time for him to start carrying the football.

Eager to impress, McGahee took off around left end. He was met by sixth-round draft pick Prescott Burgess, who showed a bit too much enthusiasm in the no-contact drill by steamrolling the running back and separating him from the ball.

The hit confirmed what McGahee suspected all along: The Baltimore Ravens never let up, even during the first day of training camp practice.

"These guys know how to win. I found that out the first day I ran the ball; my first carry was a fumble," McGahee said Tuesday, the second day of camp. "It doesn't get any better than that. I'm going to have to get my hardhat on and get ready to play."

McGahee spent four years with the Buffalo Bills, but he feels like a rookie again after coming to Baltimore in an offseason trade.

Day III much better.

After a poor 2nd day much better 3rd day. TE Wilcox was catching the ball today. Grubb wasn't out there, heard on the radio sprain knee from yesterday afternoon. Kelly Gregg didn't go, resting thigh. TE Quinn Sypniewski miss today, sick as Burgess was yesterday but Burgess was back on the field today. Don't drink the water.

Willis McGahee ran with the starting team from the start, looked much better today. Was told today that I was being to hard. How good does any RB do against this D. I'll buy it for now but I want to see something by the first preseason game, not much just something.

Speaking of the D, this is why I buy it now. Ray and Suggs jumping up to the line, then switching sides got McNair thinking to fast and he fumbled the snap. That came right after Price did a great spin on Marshal Yanda filling in for JO. Price would have killed McNair.

Grubbs questionable for scrimmage

Antwan Barnes carted off the field during the afternoon practice

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/bal-rav...0,2209843.story

By Edward Lee | Sun reporter

Ravens first-round pick Ben Grubbs is questionable for Saturday's scrimmage against the Washington Redskins at M&T Bank Stadium because of a sprained knee.

Grubbs, only the second offensive lineman in franchise history to be selected in the first round, did not practice today at McDaniel College in Westminster after spraining the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during special teams practice Tuesday afternoon.

"It's just day-to-day," said Grubbs, who watched practice in his jersey and black shorts and wore a knee brace. "I continued practicing even after I got hurt. Right now, it's just a little bit sore, and there's some swelling going on, but once that goes down, I'll be ready to go. So I'm not looking to be out for long. Just taking precautions."

Fellow rookie Antwan Barnes, a linebacker, was carted off the field during the afternoon practice session after twisting his right ankle. Barnes said the injury wasn't serious enough to keep him out of the scrimmage against the Redskins.

"I think it should be a go for Saturday," said Barnes, the team's fourth-round pick in April.

Grubbs said he injured his knee when a teammate's leg inadvertently swiped his leg out from under him. The knee swelled overnight, and Grubbs underwent a magnetic resonance imaging this morning.

"My ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] and other major ligaments are fine," he said. "So thank God it was nothing serious."

Asked if the injury could sideline Grubbs for a significant period of time, coach Brian Billick said, "Hope not."

Grubbs said he would have to wait until the team's trainers cleared him to practice again, but he said he hopes to be able to play in the scrimmage.

"We haven't talked about it," Grubbs said of the possibility of missing the scrimmage. "Like I said, it's going to be a day-to-day thing. I'll start doing things gradually, and I should be back into the swing in no time. I'm trying my best to get out there."

Happy to be back

The summer heat and two-a-days might be an unpleasant combination to some players, but not to Justin Bannan. The backup defensive tackle is just happy to be healthy and practicing again.

Bannan's 2006 season ended prematurely when he dislocated his toe against the Pittsburgh Steelers in November. The six-year veteran had off-season surgery to correct the problem and is anxious to pick up where he left off.

"For a guy like me who was out towards the end of [last] season, it's good to get back in the swing of things," said Bannan, 28, who played some with the first team yesterday in place of Kelly Gregg (right thigh bruise). "I'm not really minding camp. It's good to get the pads back on and practice."

Scrimmage tickets

Tickets are still available for Saturday's scrimmage against the Redskins at M&T Bank Stadium, which begins at noon. Lower-level tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under, while club-level seats cost $25 for adults and $20 for kids 12 and under.

To buy tickets or for more information, call 410-547-SEAT(7328) or 410-261-RAVE(7289) or visit www.baltimoreravens.com.

The Stephen and Renee Bisciotti Foundation has purchased 1,250 tickets for area youth to watch the scrimmage. The Ravens have also invited 800 family members of the Maryland National Guard deployed in Iraq to the scrimmage.

Flu going around

Besides Gregg and Grubbs, tight end Quinn Sypniewski missed practice today with the stomach flu, which is the same affliction that kept rookie linebacker Prescott Burgess from participating Tuesday. "I think it's going around just a little bit," Billick said. "Got to be careful." ... A day after Billick stopped practice to emphatically remind the players of the need to be attentive, today's sessions moved much more smoothly. "There just needed to be some emphasis points in terms of how we transition, and they got the message because they transitioned to a couple of things very well," he said.
