Ex-Maryland player Jared Gaither could come up big on Baltimore Ravens offensive line

By DAVID GINSBURG, AP Sports Writer
August 1, 2007

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- He is 350 pounds of potential, neatly packed into a 6-foot-9 frame.

If he wasn't only 21, and if he had played longer than two years at Maryland, Jared Gaither might be ready to become the starting right tackle of the Baltimore Ravens.

At this point, however, Gaither is a project.

"He's young, and he just showed up in the NFL," Ravens offensive line coach Chris Foerster said. "He's mature for a 21-year-old, but whether he can play in the NFL and step up and be a starter in this league remains to be seen."

Size is not an issue. Gaither, a fifth-round pick in last month's supplemental draft, towers over everyone at training camp except for 10-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jonathan Ogden, who is also 6-9.

looks like he could be a stud, but i wouldn't hold three days of training camp as a good barometer of success in the nfl.

Ravens up 10-0.

Running game not looking so good. PJ Daniels scored TD.

Just heard Washington just got on the board. At this point there are just a bunch of no bodies out there (Touchdown from Jordan Palmer to Burl Toler, beats Terrell Maze). They are saying over 25,000 for a scrimmage.

Troy Smith on the field. Handoff, 2 incomplete, good pass over the middle to the TE. Screen pass. QB change. Smith takes a seat. Drew in.

Gaithers dominated the scrimmage, though I'm fairly certain he never matched up against any Skins starters either.

Went to training camp last Thursday, here's some pictures I took...

Also got autographs from Mark Clayton, Troy Smith, Jason Brown, Chris Chester, Brian Billick, Ben Grubbs, Quinn Sypnewski, Marshal Yanda, and a few others. Just missed on Jared Gaither and Demetrius Williams
