LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Bobby Petrino would rather skip this conversation: Louisville's place in the Bowl Championship Series hierarchy.
``We're 10-1 and we have a game Saturday,'' the Louisville coach said. ``That's really all we are.''
The Cardinals (10-1, 5-1) play Connecticut (4-7, 1-5) on Saturday and could get shut out of the BCS even if they beat the Huskies for the school's first 11-win regular season.
If No. 13 Rutgers beats No. 15 West Virginia on Saturday, the Scarlet Knights would win the Big East and an automatic berth into the BCS because it beat Louisville 28-25 on Nov. 9. A Rutgers victory also could send the Cardinals to a lesser bowl despite being ranked in the top 10 nearly all year.
While the Cardinals would be eligible for an at-large BCS bid, they may be the odd man out when the selections are announced Sunday night. There are 10 berths for the five BCS games. Six of the spots are reserved for the winners of the six major conferences while four berths are determined by BCS officials.
No. 3 Michigan and No. 10 Boise State already appear to have locked up at-large spots, and No. 12 Notre Dame (10-2) will likely be given strong consideration, as will No. 5 LSU (10-2).
