Purdue WR Lymon stabbed, hospitalized

March 30, 2007
WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA (TICKER) -- Purdue wide receiver Selwyn Lymon was hospitalized after being stabbed early Friday morning.

Lymon, 20, was admitted to the intensive care unit at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with a stab wound to his upper chest. He is in critical but stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The hospital would not confirm the nature of the injury, but a West Lafayette police spokesman confirmed Lymon suffered a single stab wound.

According to sergeant Troy Harris, Lymon told hospital staff that he was injured at Nick's Nightclub, a bar in West Lafayette. The incident still is under investigation.

The Lafayette Journal and Courier's reported on its web site that Lymon underwent surgery.

The newspaper also reported that Nick Vukas, the club's owner, was not immediately aware of the stabbing but saw a fight break out in the middle of the bar at approximately 2 a.m.

"I believe this has to be seriously addressed," Vukas told the newspaper. "It breaks my heart to see something like this happen, for me and my staff. I pray that this young man will be OK."

A 6-4 junior, Lymon had 33 receptions for 580 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games - 12 starts - with the Boilermakers last season.

Stabbed Purdue receiver released from hospital

April 5, 2007

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- Purdue wide receiver Selwyn Lymon has been released from the hospital as he recovers from being stabbed in the chest, his father said.

Terry Lymon said his son will return to class soon, but doctors told him it would be two to four weeks before he can resume workouts.

"He's doing fine," Terry Lymon said Wednesday. "He's just a little sore."

Lymon will miss the rest of spring practice, but "will definitely be 100 percent" by the time preseason camp begins in August, his father said.

Lymon was stabbed March 30 during a fight at a West Lafayette night club. Police were looking for a young woman in connection with the incident. Lymon was originally listed in critical condition after the stabbing.

Purdue coach Joe Tiller said he was considering possible disciplinary measures against Lymon, who started 12 games as a sophomore last season.

He missed spring practice last year because he was academically ineligible, and he missed one game last season after getting shot in the eye with a paintball pellet by one of his teammates.
