NFL, CFL & Fantasy Football Thoughts

Posted 03-10-2009 at 12:47 PM by Darcman
NFL: Last week, the NFL was filled with "superstars" acting like "super-idiots". You had Cutler crying like a baby because the new coaching staff in Denver have yet to read the chapter on 'how to properly handle your players' and let leak that they were considering trading him and thus put Cutler into a fierce temper tantrum. You also had stud RB Marshawn Lynch face felony gun charges along with some potential drug charges. He managed to get all that down to 1 misdemeanour, but he should still be facing a suspension. Then the king of suspensions, Brandon Marshall also from the Broncos (tough week to be a Broncos fan!), ended up with his 13th charge. Why do these guys do these things? Big contract signings mean less room for common sense I suppose. What ever happened to football players being someone good for the community and a role model instead of a black mark?

Fantasy Football: So, zoom ahead to this week in the NFL and the biggest news is that Terrell Owens got cut from the Dallas Cowboys. I could see this happening down the road when the Cowboys traded for Roy Williams last season. Dallas will be just fine without TO. So many of the fantasy football guys that I communicate with were sharing their wish list of teams they'd like him to sign with to maximize his value and which ones they didn't want to see him go to.

Teams like Indianapolis where TO could step into Marvin Harrison's spot, New England getting thrown to by Brady, NY Giants to take Plaxico "I can't believe I ended my career by shooting myself in the leg" Burress' spot, and even Cincinnatti to take TJ "Who'syourmamma"'s spot. It was rumoured that he would not play for a team that was not already a contender. So why Buffalo then? Their ground game is facing a bit of a hit because Lynch faces suspension (not that I don't have faith in Jackson, he is capable, but Lynch is still the monster), Lee Evans' value takes a solid hit and we all know how TO likes to chew up and spit out QB's, even the better ones like Garcia (in his day), McNabb & Romo. Can you just imagine what he's going to do with a guy like Edwards throwing to him? I think that unless Buffalo makes a trade for another QB, TO's days of double digit TD's may be numbered.

CFL: Speaking of trading for QB's, what was Winnipeg thinking? Releasing the #5 ranked passer in letting Kevin Glenn go! For who? Lefors? Dinwiddie? Neither of them compare to Glenn in my opinion. Neither of them are the answer. I think a bigger question has to be what are the Bombers' front office thinking? Last year they got rid of Roberts in favor of Joe Smith. Smith may be a flash in the pan while Roberts has proven himself over and over again, and lets not forget that Roberts is a threat catching the ball, not just running over people. Now the Bombers get rid of a very capable QB? If there are any Bomber fans out there, you're in for a long hard season. Thankfully for you, you're in the East and should still be able to make the playoffs.

I welcome your comments.
