Bills 2006 Draft Review
Buffalo Bills
The Good: Whitner and Simpon seem to be the answer at the safety spots. Williams, Ellison and Pennington were late round picks that were able to become starters.
The Bad: Did not get much out of 1st round pick McCargo and 3rd round pick Youboty.
The Ugly: Both Whitner and McCargo were taken any where from a half a round to a full round too early and the way the Bills drafted in the later round having more picks would have been great.
Overall: Even with the bills reaching on Whitner and McCargo they seem like they will be solid players. They got 5 starters out of this draft and that does not include Youboty who should take over at CB. Grade A

I dont think Whitner was that much of a reach. I think it was more a case of mock drafts, and actual scouts boards being different.

At the time I figured it was a reach, but he had a great rookie campaign and proved me wrong. Another great guy they picked up late was Simpson (who I thought should have went higher).

The basicly got 2 first round players later in Simpson and Youbooty. Youbooty basicly got redshirted last year, but he will probobly take Clements spot, and I think he will be just as good if not better.

I am not ready to say he will be better than Clements, but he was proven in college, and now had a whole year to learn the defense.

Clements really wasnt that good. Tererence McGee much better CB IMO.

Right, I just have to see how Yobouty performs as a starter. Should be a smooth transition for a Ohio State DB.

Bills have a good history with OSU DB's. Winfield, Clements, and Whitner have all been solid players. I think the fact that Youbooty and Whitner played in the same defensive backfield in college will help Youbooty. Whitner knows him, and knws his tendencies. I think if Youbooty pans out, the Bills could have the best secondary in the NFL in a couple of years. Terence McGee gets better every year, and IMO is become one of the better corners in the league, and they had arguably the two best rookie Safteys last year (I rate them both over Landry, I think Baltimore's D helped him alot).

Especially playing opposite ED Reed, Landry was the target for the opposition's scouting reports. They didnt want to throw the ball anywhere near Reed.
I still see some questions in the secondary. Is McGee good enough to be the number one corner? Can Yobouty be a starter? I dont see any problems with these, but the secondary is going to have some youth in it. I dont see the Bills offense staying on the field long, so it could be a lot to ask for. Without question though, they are headed in the right direction in that area.
