Default Will the defense be better against the run?

As training camp fast approaches buffalobills.com prepares you by trying to answer the top 20 questions facing the Bills in 2006. Monday through Friday until the day before training camp, buffalobills.com will present each of the poignant issues facing the team daily in an effort to have you the fan primed for all the action at St. John Fisher. Don't stray far from buffalobills.com!

Last year was a forgettable one for Buffalo when it came to defending the run. They finished 31st in the league in yards allowed on the ground. No other team in the NFL gave up more first downs rushing (146) than the Bills. They tied for a league worst 22 rushing touchdowns allowed. In a word it was ugly.

Sure there were some key factors that contributed to the struggles like the season-ending injuries to Takeo Spikes and Ron Edwards in the first half of the season. And defensive tackle Sam Adams played uninspired football after his run-in with the coaching staff in the season's second half.

i think the return of Spikes makes them a whole letter grade better. They should be stronger on defense, but with the loss of Milloy it won't be much better.

Milloy isn't near what he used to be. That loss wont effect them much because he was slipping in coverage. He might have been a worse player than the backup!

i doubt he was worse than the backup, but i get your point. All i'm saying is with the loss of Milloy you lose a lot of vet. leadership.

i agree
The returning Spikes will be a step forward, Milloy leaving is a half step back (Bills style )

I think spikes coming back is a mirage, he will certainly help against the run, but who is their DT now that adams is gone, he is a much bigger loss than milloy. spikes again will definitely make their defense better, but he won't help thier offense and that defense is going to be out there on the field alot.

Larry Tripplett is a DE playing DT, not sure if he can replace adams.
