Wide Open Field: As we continue our look at the position battles heading into next month's training camp, we look at the wide open field battling it out at wide receiver. The team will most likely keep five at the position but may be forced to keep six because of heavy competition if one player can double as a special teams ace. That player would most likely be Sam Aiken who has been a stalwart on special teams the past couple of seasons. This year the Bills may not have the luxury of keeping Aiken for that reason alone. Lee Evans is the only lock to make the roster and will be the number one guy. You would expect Peerless Price and Josh Reed to make the team because of the bonuses they signed. Andre Davis is a new regime signee as well and has a good chance of making the club. If they all succeed in being on the final roster that leaves just one or two spots with intense competition. Roscoe Parrish also should make the team because of his upside and the fact he was a high draft pick. Since that was the previous regime all bets are off but it may be costly to release him. If Parrish is the fifth wideout there is a good chance they'll carry six. Aiken will be in the mix for that spot but will be challenged by two other young veterans and an undrafted free agent. Jonathan Smith showed some flashes in limited action last year but he is a solid punt returner. George Wilson will remain in the mix because he has caught everything in sight in the off season workouts. The most intriguing prospect his Martin Nance who has good size and talent. Chris Denney is the one player who doesn't have much of a chance to make the team. So who do we think will be on the 53 man roster? We think they will have to carry six and they will be: Evans, Price, Reed, Davis, Parrish, and Smith with Nance going to the practice squad. Who do you think won't make the cut? Take our poll on our homepage

The way I see it, after Lee Evans we have a lot of good to pretty decent WRs. Our 6th and 7th WRs (Martin Nance and Fast Freddie Smith) are just as good as our 2nd and 3rd WRs (Price and Reed)

I really want to see Nance make the team because he basically the only WR with size that we got, and I'd hate to see guys like Fast Freddie and Sam Aiken get cut. Both good WRs in their own right.

GOD we have a log jam at WR.

I really feel like Fast Freddie could be a hell of a player. Whenever he gets the ball he makes things happen. Problem is, Mularkey was an idiot.

I don't think we really need a clear cut #2 or #3 WR. I mean look at the Steelers. They had their one stud and then after that a bunch of guys contribute. Guys like Cedrick Wilson were making an impact. Sure you could say they did have a clear cut #2 in ARE but his numbers weren't that much better then Josh Reed's last year.

We have enough talent and guys who can get the job done. The competition will make them even better. I'm not worried about it.

Also i think we need to make and effort to make Willis involved in the passing game more. Look at all the good teams backs..they all put up gaudy receiving stats.

It depends how you look at it.

We have depth with a lot of above average players. Hopefully a solid #2 can emerge out of the bunch and from there on out every one else is basically capable of being a solid #3.

Who ever gets cut in this group WILL end up on another teams opening day roster.

The real problem is that a lot of our receivers are exactly the same type of players. And Roscoe Parrish and Fast Freddie are basically human clones of eachother. They couldn't get more identical if you tried.

I thought the topic would lead into a fat joke about Lee Evans/Undersized WR #2 packing a few extra pounds coming into camp. I'm very disappointed to find out that it's just your run of the mill offseason banality.

but thats only if Evans cant be a #1. If he rises up to the challenge then everyone else will benefit and it will be a arty2:" class="inlineimg" /> in Buffalo

Well I'm sorry to dissapoint.

The Bills have a tendency of doing that.
