Defensive Secrets
Carolina's 24-6 win over Atlanta wasn't exactly surprising, the Panthers are a much better team. The way they engineered the win, however, was. They pioneered a new defensive strategy specifically tailored to defend quarterback anomaly Michael Vick. A series of spies, blitzes and blocks kept him in the pocket and unable to run, and well-executed pass defense held him to less yards than he's yet had any game this season. The Panthers Defensive Coordinator, Mike Trgovac, refused to elaborate on how exactly he pulled the plan off, but we can all say it worked very well. I think every coach in the NFL needs to study the tapes from that game, it's a new way to defend that obviously works very well.
