Fox takes blame for Panthers' failed trick play
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Carolina coach John Fox is fond of saying that a punt isn't a bad play.

Yet on Monday, one of the most conservative coaches in the NFL was taking the blame for a botched trick play on a fourth-quarter punt return that ended up being the turning point in a 16-13

overtime loss to Minnesota. The play resulted in a fumble and after Minnesota pulled out a surprise of its own -- a fake field goal -- ended up with a touchdown that tied the game at 13.


"At that point in the game we were trying to be aggressive. We got too greedy -- or I should say I did," Fox said. "If I could do it over again I wouldn't do it."

It wasn't so much the callI didn't like, but the timing. If the game was been getting away, or the defense was playing poorly, that is an ok call. But when the defense was dominant, the game was basically in hand, that call was a little mindless.

Ya that call was crazy. Completely horrible decision. But the loss just solidifies my point that the Panthers can't win without Smith. Even when they played ok without him (notice I said ok, not good or great) they still lose. It is just meant for them to lose when Smith either isn't playing or has a horrible game.

The worst part about it is how unexpected it is because Fox is usually about letting the other team make the mistake, lets bounce back and win vs the bucs and never pull something like that lateral again
