Default Testaverde mulls playing in 2008

PANTHERS QUARTERBACK KEEPING OPTIONS OPEN
Testaverde mulls playing in 2008
His workout regimen is the same as in 1994
STAN OLSON

Carolina Panthers quarterback Vinny Testaverde, 44, hasn't ruled out playing again next season.

Should he put off retirement and start a game at some point in 2008, Testaverde would become the oldest quarterback to do so in NFL history, surpassing Steve DeBerg, who played at 44 years, 279 days in 1998.

Earlier this season, Testaverde said this year was almost certainly his last. But he's having fun and is reconsidering.

"I'd have to look at that," he said. "It depends on when and for how long, that kind of thing. But I'm always open to entertain those kind of thoughts."

Testaverde knows if he were to stay with Carolina, it would be as a backup to Jake Delhomme, who has been sidelined this season by elbow surgery. But he admitted that even a reserve role is tempting.

God, if Vinny's our answer as a backup QB, then next year will probably be just as bad as this one. We need some one fresh in here to push Delhomme. It looked like that was this case this year because Jake started off great, and then Carr actually played....

We're 5-7 overall and 2 of those wins came from Delhomme. Granted Carr did play in several of those games but a 3-6 record isn't exactly winning

He's a lot better than Carr, but hell anybody is at this point so I don't want to see a 45 year old as our backup next year

With the lack of competent QBs in the NFL today Vinny @ 45 is still worth holding onto.

most of you are missing the main thing here. Dellhomme may not be back right away at the start of next season so Vinny needs to stick around to start. Even as a backup he is better than Carr. Moore is still to new to the game to give him the starting role so Vinny could teach him a few things in transition.

Out of three games Vinny played we won two and lost one...not that bad for a 44 year old
If anyone gets cut it will be carr!
