The Carolina Panthers put the final touches this morning on a new contract for safety Chris Harris, according to his agent.
Harris agreed to a four-year, $12 million extension to his deal, which was due to run out at the end of the 2008 season.
The Panthers obtained Harris from the Chicago Bears during preseason last year for a fifth-round pick. He turned out to be a bargain. He had 97 tackles and eight forced fumbles, solidifying himself as a long-term starter.
Harris received a $2 million signing bonus and is due to receive a $1 million roster bonus in March 2009.
"It just made sense to do it," said Harris' agent, Albert Elias. "Chris loved Carolina and coach Fox and the whole organization, from Mr. Richardson on down."
