I'm still trying to get a clear answer on this, is the Ottawa team going to happen for next season? Tough to find any clear information.

Probably not for next season. There is a lot of questions there including the work needed to repair Frank Clair Stadium.

That said they are looking at a new set up that would partner with Carleton University and bring back football to Ottawa in two forms. The new pro team would bring the Carleton Ravens back into the CIS. Winning situation on two fronts.

Ottawa will not be back for next season. But Ottawa will be back.

The CFL is determined to shove a team down the throats of people in Ottawa. They don't realize that Ottawa is NOT a sports town and that they are just setting up for a 3rd CFL failure in Ottawa.

However...

I still want them to get a team. Then my drive to see a game will only be 2 hours rather than 5!

It's not really the CFL trying to put a team in Ottawa but an ownership group trying to put a team in Ottawa. Of course the CFL wouldn't turn down an ownership group that would pay an expansion fee (just like the other leagues).

The CFL was commited to going back to Ottawa before any ownership groups emerged. They are set on making football work there. It won't. Ottawa is not a sports town.

But there should be expansion. 8 teams gets very dull.

My idea for expansion (I'm not taking into consideration who already has stadiums)...

- Ottawa (if someone can make it work)
- Windsor, ON (big market for football. Could also draw fans from the other side of the pond)
- Victoria, BC
- Halifax, NS
- North Dakota (close enough to Canada, no other pro football)

I do believe in American expansion... but it would have to be done right.

I totally agree that the CFL needs to find a way to get 12 teams into the fold. The sooner the better! My picks are Ottawa, Quebec City, Moncton and Halifax.

There was a group that was looking at having a team based in Windsor but playing in the Pontiac Silverdome. Would've been interesting!

Remember at the time of their folding the Ottawa Rough Riders were the oldest football organization in the world. Older than any American team, any English football club (even though they play soccer). They were 126 years of history and by the time they folded they had only 1 winning record for the previous 20 seasons I believe. Ottawa was a monster CFL town at one time, but the lackluster teams, poor ownership groups (Brad Watters was worse than the Glibbermans but nobody talks about that).

Canada's issue is facilities and perhaps that's what you are thinking about when you say the CFL wanted into Ottawa before the ownership groups formed. There were three groups at one point looking to put a team into Frank Claire Stadium.
