Around these parts there's a lot of talk about the 2012 Bears defense being better than the 1985 Bears defense. I say BS!!
Here's why.
Here's a comparison after 8 games of both teams.

1985 Bears 114
2012 Bears 120

Yards against
1985 Bears 2445
2012 Bears 2551

For the 1985 Bears it gets better the 2nd half of the season. With a total of 84 points against for the last 8 games of the season with two shutouts and only 10 points given up in three playoff games including a 21-0 shutout of the New York Giants in the divisional game and a 24-0 shutout of the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game.
Then a 46-10 rout of the Patriots in the super bowl and a 18-1 final record for 1985!!

Lets see if the 2012 Bears can keep up....
I certainly hope so.

Actually the '85 Bears defense didn't come alive until the 2nd half of the season.
The final 8 games they had 2 shutouts.
A 44-0 rout of the Cowboys in Dallas.

The 13th game of the season they lost to Marino and the Dolphins 38-24 on monday night in Miami. The other 7 games of the 2nd half of the '85 season the Bears and Buddy Ryans "46" defense only allowed 46 points. That's an average of 6.5 points/game.
That is phenomenal in itself.

As of now after 12 games the '12 Bears have given up as many points(198)as the '85 Bears did after 16 games.
I don't hear the media whores boasting about the '12 Bears defense anymore?
