Bears' title quest begins with full-squad minicamp
By Larry Mayer
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Unified by their determination to return to the Super Bowl and win it, the Bears will kick off their mandatory minicamp with the first of three non-contact practices Friday at Halas Hall.
“This is our first opportunity to do something about the way we ended last season and everybody is ready to get back out there on the field and just see what this new team is going to do this year,” said cornerback Nathan Vasher.
The ultimate goal hasn't changed, but the Bears' rallying cry has been slightly modified this season.
While the goal remains the same, the Bears’ rallying cry in 2007 has been slightly modified. After failing to “finish” with a championship a year ago, the offensive line led by All-Pro center Olin Kreutz gave each of their teammates a black t-shirt emblazoned on the back with the word “unfinished” and "February 3, 2008," the date of Super Bowl XLII.
“The shirts that Olin made for this new season say it best,” said wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad. “It’s unfinished and that’s how we feel. We’ve got unfinished business and we’re right back on the chopping block to get it done.
“A lot of people didn’t give us a shot in the dark to go to the Super Bowl. If you would have listened to some of our critics, you never would have thought that last year in training camp we’d have a chance to go to the Super Bowl. But we all believed.
“Now we’re ready to get back to work and we’re all excited about what the future holds for us.”
