Brown hosting benefit motorcycle run June 9-10
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Looking for a fun way to spend a weekend while helping a great cause?
The Ruben Brown Motorcycle Run is being hosted by the Bears’ Pro Bowl guard June 9-10. The event, which raises funds for the Salvation Army, consists of a Saturday night kickoff party at Navy Pier in Chicago and a Sunday motorcycle run and post-run party in the northern suburbs.
Interested in creating an alternative to traditional fundraisers such as golf outings while tapping into his hobby, Brown founded the motorcycle run in 2001 when he played for the Buffalo Bills. It continues in Buffalo while returning to Chicago for a second straight year.
“I’ve attended tons of fundraisers and none of them have been fun to me,” said Brown, a motorcycle enthusiast. “I think there are a lot more interesting ways to raise money. This is a way that anybody can come and just relax and enjoy it.”
The kickoff party at Navy Pier will include live musical entertainment, vehicle displays, a custom bike display featuring national and local bike builders and food and drink. A $10 donation is required to enter the party, which will run from 7-10 p.m.
The following morning, motorcyclists will meet at Woodstock Harley Davidson in Woodstock from 8:30-10:30 a.m. for a 50-mile scenic ride. The run costs $25 for individual riders and $35 for riders and a passenger on the same bike. All riders will be admitted free to the post-run party at Austin’s Saloon & Eatery in Libertyville. Non-riders can enter for a $10 donation.
