Hosted by Lance Armstrong, The ESPYS will be taped July 12 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and televised July 16 on ESPN at 8 p.m. Chicago time.
Pro Bowl defenders Brian Urlacher and Nathan Vasher have been nominated for 2006 ESPY Awards in the categories of "Best NFL Player" and "Best Play," respectively.
Urlacher's competition for the "Best NFL Player" award includes Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander and Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith.
Vasher was nominated for his 108-yard return for a touchdown of a missed field against the 49ers, which set a record for the longest play in NFL history. The score came on the final play of the first half and gave the Bears a 7-3 lead en route to a 17-9 win.
Vasher's competition for the "Best Play" award includes Phillies outfielder Aaron Rowand's catch while crashing into the fence and breaking his nose; Mets third baseman David Wright's barehanded catch against the Padres; USC's Reggie Bush's punt return touchdown against Washington and Alabama's Tyrone Prothro's TD catch versus Southern Mississippi.
What else can you say about Brian? Simply the best.
Maybe he should sit out of the awards next year to give someone else a chance?
I saw the game that Vasher returned that missed field goal for 108yds. hard to believe!! He was on his toes. Some players forget you can return a missed field goal. But he didn't
