Default ESPY Awards

http://www.chicagobears.com/news/new...l.jsp?id=16007

Hosted by Lance Armstrong, The ESPYS will be taped July 12 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and televised July 16 on ESPN at 8 p.m. Chicago time.

Pro Bowl defenders Brian Urlacher and Nathan Vasher have been nominated for 2006 ESPY Awards in the categories of "Best NFL Player" and "Best Play," respectively.

Urlacher's competition for the "Best NFL Player" award includes Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander and Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith.

Vasher was nominated for his 108-yard return for a touchdown of a missed field against the 49ers, which set a record for the longest play in NFL history. The score came on the final play of the first half and gave the Bears a 7-3 lead en route to a 17-9 win.

Vasher's competition for the "Best Play" award includes Phillies outfielder Aaron Rowand's catch while crashing into the fence and breaking his nose; Mets third baseman David Wright's barehanded catch against the Padres; USC's Reggie Bush's punt return touchdown against Washington and Alabama's Tyrone Prothro's TD catch versus Southern Mississippi.

What else can you say about Brian? Simply the best.
Maybe he should sit out of the awards next year to give someone else a chance?

I saw the game that Vasher returned that missed field goal for 108yds. hard to believe!! He was on his toes. Some players forget you can return a missed field goal. But he didn't

Vashar should win the "Best Play" without a doubt. That return off the missed field goal was absolutly amazing. As for "Best NFL Player" Alexander will win it easily after that record breaking season.

It's funny, because I work with a Packerbacker (Boooooo!) and he is always saying how AJ Hawk is the next Urlacher.
It seems like every year people are talking about "the next Brian Urlacher" with rookie Linebackers and up and coming players.
Funny thing is, HE IS STILL PLAYING!!! How do you compare some1 to him when he is at the top of his game!!

I dont know, It just really bugs me.

You people are so lucky to have a future HOF LB on your team...
I have been without 1 for along time!

Good Luck People...it should be a FUN year.
I have season tix to the Vikes and the Bears game is one of my favorites...you never really can tell what the hell is going to happen...
Plus, I dont hate the Bears, and I cant say that about the Pack.

I had Chicago's defense that week Vasher returned that field goal. Yahoo scored it as a Def TD and a blocked kick.

Its weird that you say that. Cause I don't hate the Vikes but I very much dislike the Packers. And its not Favre cause I think hes he just a great QB and has wrecked the NFC North for a long time. It might just be their hornery fans!!

Anyway, there should be no reason that Vasher shouldn't get that award for "Best Play". there was nothing that significant last year to beat it IMO. Also Urlacher is great but most likely will not get "Best NFL player" There a few others that deserve that more than him.

It's a shame that the Gary Matthews Jr catch didn't happen a couple months ago or that would take it IMO, just an incredible catch.
