Chinasky you bring up a good point I have not thought much about. I say there's a good chance Briggs will find a new team next year. Especially if he has another pro bowl performance this year. He'll be worth more and Da Bears have a history of not paying more.

I knew briggs would have the starters job. that was a no brainer. lovie has still got to show that he leads the show. If he leaves next year, then the bears will have lost a big piece of their defense and I think they know that. lo
I don't know if they can use the franchise tag on him, is he eligible. I think in order for them to franchise him, they had till a certain time to make a qualifying offer. I am not sure if this applies to him.
i think anyone can get the franchise tag once their contract runs out. Isn't that what makes it such a good tool? It forces the player to stay on for one more year.
no they can't. after a certain number or years or if the franchise tag has been used on a player a certain number of times then they are not allowed to use it on them again. I don't know the exact rules, but there are stipulations that prevent a team from protecting the same player many times or after a certain amount of years.
