Bears remain confident in ground game

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The running game that powered the Bears offense in 2005 has unexpectedly taken a backseat to a prolific passing attack so far this season.
But with the NFL’s top-rated quarterback in Rex Grossman leading a unit that scored 60 points in lopsided wins over Green Bay and Detroit, there’s little concern about any lack of production on the ground.
After two games, Bears running back Thomas Jones is on pace to rush for 1,016 yards this season.
“We’re definitely excited about the way the offense has played,” said running back Thomas Jones. “We’ll run the ball when we need to run the ball.
“We’ve been making some pretty good plays in the run game. We just haven’t had a breakout game that we’re due to have. But we’re putting up points. We’re moving the ball, we’re converting on third down; we’re doing all the things that we need to do to be successful.”
