Hillenmeyer ready to return from concussion
By Larry Mayer
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – If there has been a study published about head injuries that Hunter Hillenmeyer hasn’t seen, it must be an obscure one. But the Bears linebacker insists that he isn’t concerned about stepping back on the field after suffering a concussion in the season opener in Green Bay.
“I’ve got my mom and girlfriend sending me 50 articles off the Internet about all the long-term effects of concussions,” Hillenmeyer said. “But that’s not something that I’m thinking about. I know the doctors wouldn’t let me play if they thought there was any greater risk of me getting another one than with anybody else out there.”
After being held out of last weekend’s home game against the Lions, Hillenmeyer is expected to be back in the starting lineup Sunday when the Bears (2-0) battle the Vikings (2-0) in Minnesota.
“I think that it was a precaution,” he said about sitting out versus Detroit. “I was physically able to play, But you always want to err on the side of caution when it’s your brain.”
