Default Magical Bears Victory

September 23, 2006

Thayer made debut in memorable victory
By Larry Mayer

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Jim McMahon led the 1985 Bears to a magical 33-24 Thursday night victory in Minnesota, coming off the bench to throw three touchdown passes in the third quarter to fuel a remarkable comeback.

But McMahon’s performance wasn’t the only thing that made the win special for Tom Thayer. After not playing in the first two games of the season, the Bears rookie guard was unexpectedly thrust into action after Kurt Becker got injured.

“I would always drive over to the stadium with the trainers and get there five or six hours before a game,” Thayer recalled. “For that game, I was so disappointed that I hadn’t played that I took the last bus there. I didn’t tape my wrists or my ankles and I was just kind of pouting.”

Yea Nole lost a ton. I wait till the last minute to keep points in the bank longer. It turns out better in more ways than one. Don't worry Da Bears will cover.
