I hate it when people use stats to define a Football player. It's one thing when you rag on Tillman's play. But Thomas Jones is ten times what anybody on our ofnse has been. I'm sick of it. People are villinaizing him b/c he isnt showing up to voluntary OTA's.

Jones is a good back. He is no doubt our best weapon on offense. He does not however do one of the most important things in our offense and that is move the chains. I personally think this area is one that Jones NEEDS TO IMPROVE ON.

meh... statistics.
These statistics don't show that every team knew we were going to run the ball every damn down and had a rookie, 3rd round QB that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

didn't stop chester taylor from getting ranked pretty high

Don't this as me not liking TJ. I do. However this really sticks out to me. Jones doesn't get nearly as many 1st downs as he should for the amount of carries he got last year. Ball control is the name of our game. If our RB isn't moving the chains the game plan doesn't work.

I think probably 90% of the failed third down conversions can be blamed on Ron Turners play calling

I've never thought Thomas Jones was THAT good, even last season. Yea every team knew we were going to run the ball, but that's more of a credit to the stellar Oline play than it is to TJ.

TJ is supposed to be an open field back, yet he doesn't really make anyone miss in the open field. Furthermore it doesn't take much to tackle him and he doesn't keep his feet moving when held up.

Still, he's our best offensive weapon at the moment, which is more attricuted to how bad our offense is rather then how great TJ is.

But part of it isn't TJ's fault. Ron Turner wants and North-South run game and that's simply not TJ's forte. Jones' real value is in the passing game with his ability to pick up the blitz and receive passes out of the backfield... which is why i was excited for us and him about the prospects of a trade with the Colts this offseason. He would be VERY good in the Colts' system.
