QB DERBY: Brian Griese looked sharper than Rex Grossman early in the Bears' offseason practices. Coach Lovie Smith has said it's an open competition for the starting quarterback job, but given Grossman's injury history - he played in only three games in each of his three seasons - Griese is sure to play.

"I've always looked at myself as a starting quarterback," Griese said. "The times I wasn't, to me it was just a matter of time and working hard to get back on the field."

In six of the last eight seasons, the Bears have used at least three starting quarterbacks, four in 2004.

no surprises there. if griese outperforms grossman in the preseason and grossman starts, you all shouldn't be surprised. jerry angelo hitched his wagon to rex grossman and will have his fate sealed by the success or failure of rex glassman.

The reason Griese is outperforming Grossman is b/c Griese is the better QB.

If the job is handed to Grossman I am going to be livid.

Theres no way Griese is starting week one. Angelo's pet project is on its last leg.

This is good news. We're getting the position battle that we need to see.

I don't know what to expect. I tend to believe they will end up starting Grossman in Week 1 regardless. But my opinion is let the better man start. If Griese wins the competition, so be it. I like Rex but if he can't outperform Griese with his job supposedly on the line, then I have no quarrels with Griese being our man.

Not too suprising, I wouldn't be suprised if Griese starts over Rex when the season starts

I think the Bears would be a lot more dangerous team with Griese, the run game would have a lot less pressure, and Griese is capable of taking advantage of the weaknesses when teams play the run. With Bradley coming back, and a real QB to throw to moose, this could be a legit offense. And the D is ok too
