1. Vernon Davis, TE, San Francisco: I love Davis. I think he could do the kinds of things we've gotten accustomed to seeing from San Diego's Antonio Gates. I just don't see that happening as long as Alex Smith is throwing the football for the 49ers. I realize Smith is only in his second season, but he didn't do anything in his first year to make me think he's due for rapid development. Smith has more growing pains to go through, and as long as he struggles, so will Davis.

Somebody doesn't fly out to the West Coast obviously.

Let's answer the question, Natas. Why was he horrible?

Oline was hurt
K Harris sucked
WRs were unreliable
Defense of course crushed our Oline
Smith wound up hurt himself, sub QB was far WORSE then him
Lost games he should have won

But now let's answer as to why he could be better:
Signed Larry Allan, have Jennings back, Newberry is a go, or Heitman/Baas. Heitman/Baas can also play for Smiley/Harris. WE got a player named Estes that's gotten some good raves
Signed Antonio Bryant, Gillmore, few other WRs. Drafted WR.
Drafted Vernon Davis.

Wouldn't logic say a good Oline=good QB? How did the Steelers win other then running? How did the Colts win their games? Answer is not just the QB< but a good Oline.

Douches shouldn't work for SI anyway, they're the yahoos I talk about with no team spirit.

And I didn't even need to fly out to the west coast to tell you that.

Obviously, you forgot that Peyton Manning, Troy Aikman, Jake DelHomme were BAD, and I didn't have to fly to their areas to witness how bad they were also! Improving an Oline made them better so if you're saying the 49er Oline doesn't need improvement, you're in the wrong sport. IT's not the QB, it's the Oline. How do we know if Smith is bad if he never had time to get rid of the ball? Give Manning, Aikman, DelHomme, and even Kurt Warner time, they became professionals.

Way too much is expected out of Davis. I kind of agree with the article in that sense.

He was extemely bad but I dont see how davis would be a bad fit for this team. another weapon on O is never bad. i dont like alex smith and I dont think he will be a great QB, but having davis is not a bad fit for the 49ers

I'm looking forward to see how drew brees plays without gates to throw to this year as well.

Screw having the weapons on "O" if you still don't have a QB to throw the ball. Ask us Lions fans about that . You can only make excuses for QB's (Joey) for so long before you just have to say he isn't going to get it. 1 year doesn't make or break Smith but I also didn't see anything to hang high hopes on him for this year.

Perfect example, and I don't mean that as a rip on the lions. Joey Harrington is 10x the QB Alex Smith is, so.. there you'll have it.
